Phases of Kairos
Single Channel Projection, Daniels and Fisher Clocktower, Denver, CO Duration 2:31
Phases of Kairos uses elements that are markers of non-human timescales such as fossils, insects, desert flowers, sand deposits, and burn marks on the land. They animatedly cascade over the surface of the historic Daniels and Fisher clocktower in downtown Denver, CO. Like phases of the moon, cycles of ocean waves, and the erosion of dunes, the images move in modes that contrast and subvert the mechanical measures of the original architecture.
This work comments on a condition of the present capitalist organization of time, suggesting that we are in a moment of reimagining, seeing kairos: the iteration of time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action; the opportune and decisive moment.
